A defensible space is the area between a structure and an oncoming wildfire where nearby vegetation has been modified to reduce a wildfire’s intensity. Bears: 1, Human: 0

Bears: 1, Humans: 0

So…We have lived in bear country for about 25 years and have generally figured out how to coexist. We watch our trash, don’t leave stuff out, etc.  We even have a bear-proof container for the bird seed we keep outside. Good news, it really is bear proof! Bad news is, we have no idea where the #@&$ bear took it!

Ips Beetle

Ips beetles are bark beetles that damage pine and spruce trees. An indication of the Ips beetle infestation could be a yellowish- or reddish-brown boring dust in bark crevices or around the base of the tree.
